A Word on Hape’

Hapé (sometimes spelled rapé, but pronounced hop eh) is a sacred snuff produced by a few tribes in the Amazonian Basin, primarily in Brazil and Perú.  Hapé is a finely ground powder of medicinal herbs, mapacho and often tree ash bark. Hapé can produce a wide variety of effects.  It can clear negative energies, focus the mind on the present moment, give a deeply grounding experience.

As a medicine, it may move energy in the form of purging, tears, pain, snot, warmth and more.  Each experience can be unique in its effects on the body and one’s energy.  A practitioner can adjust the intensity of each experience by varying the amount of hapé used and the force and length of breath used to propel the hapé.

When it comes to introducing Hapés to newcomers, I always emphasize the initial intense burning sensation that lasts for approximately 5 to 10 seconds upon application in the nostrils. It's important for individuals to be prepared for this temporary discomfort. To ensure a balanced experience, I highly recommend applying Hapé to both nostrils using either a Kuripé or Tepí, traditional applicators.

As with any plant-based medicinal, Hapés should be used with caution and in moderation. If you have a tobacco allergy, it is advisable to avoid using them entirely. Additionally, if you experience nasal irritation, it is important to discontinue Hapé usage until the irritation has fully healed. Our commitment to your well-being and safety is paramount, and we encourage responsible use of these extraordinary snuffs.
